Redefining Poverty

Poverty isn’t what you think.

If I asked you to define poverty, what would you say?

So often, we mistakenly view poverty as the lack of material possessions, unaware of the reality that poverty is rooted more so in emotions. How can you expect someone to hold a steady job if their daily lives are saturated with shame? How can you preach the American dream to someone who is bogged down by humiliation and disparaging looks each day? Fighting poverty starts with a name, a face, and a friendship.

Script, animation, illustration, and voiceover done by Tatum Smith.

Whether it’s a journal entry or quick sentence, I’d love to hear your story or thoughts on this video. Do you have a friend without a house? Do you have hesitations about this approach to poverty relief? Progress stems from discussion, so let’s hear your thoughts!
